Before and After School Program Information
The Before School Program The Before School Program provides a safe and friendly environment for students in kindergarten to grade 8 who need to arrive at school between 7 and 8:45 am. The program is staffed by GCCS teachers. Students may choose from a variety of activities to begin their day. These include games, puzzles, independent reading programs and math programs. The Galloway Community Charter School certified teachers staff the Before School Program. The After School Program The After School Program enables students in K-grade 8 to explore enriching educational topics in a fun-filled setting from 3:30 to 6 pm. Mathematical Monday is offered every Monday from 3:30-6 pm. Mathematical Monday activities are designed to enrich the K-8 mathematics curriculum with a focus on logic and problem solving. Students are grouped in multi-age settings which include primary (K-3), intermediate/middle (4-8). The schedule for Mathematical Monday is: 3:30-3:45 Circle Time is an informal gathering of students and teachers to take attendance and set objectives for the afternoon. 3:45-4:00 Snack Time treats may be purchased or brought from home. Students may celebrate birthdays, accomplishments, and new additions to the family or other exciting news during this time. 4:00-4:30 Recess Time is an opportunity for students to play outdoors on the play equipment. 4:30-5:00 Math Time is a teacher directed lesson that focuses on logic and problem solving. These lessons include independent, peer and group activities. 5:00-5:30 Choice Time is when students decide to do their homework or work independently on a math program. 5:30-6:00 Game Time is a teacher directed activity that requires students to use math skills in a competitive setting. Talented Tuesday is offered every Tuesday from 3:30-6 pm. Talented Tuesday activities are designed to enrich the K-8 creative and performing arts and physical education curriculum. The focus is on dance and music. Students are grouped in multi-age settings which include primary (K-3), intermediate/ middle (4-8). The schedule for Talented Tuesday is: 3:30-3:45 Circle Time is an informal gathering of students and teachers to take attendance and set objectives for the afternoon. 3:45-4:00 Snack Time treats may be purchased or brought from home. Students may celebrate birthdays, accomplishments, or the arrival of a new brother or sister during this time. 4:00-4:30 Recess Time is an opportunity for students to play outdoors on the play equipment. 4:30-6:00 Arts Time is a teacher directed lesson that focuses on performing art skills. From September to June the focus is on music and dance. Students learn about instruments including keyboard, strings, and winds. Students explore movement through dance. Students learn about rhythm and beat in a fun-filled, informal setting. Wilderness Wednesday is offered every Wednesday from 3:30-6 pm. Wilderness Wednesday activities are designed to enrich the K-8 science curriculum. Students are grouped in multi-age settings which include primary (K-3), intermediate/ middle (4-8). These lessons include independent, peer and group activities. Earth Science topics are explored between September and December. Physical Science topics are explored between January and March. Life Science topics are explored between April and June. 4:45-5:30 Experiment Time is hands on activities that support the lesson. 5:30-6:00 Science Journal Time enables students to document their inquiries. Traveling Thursday is offered every Thursday from 3:30-6 pm. Traveling Thursday activities are designed to enrich the K-8 social studies curriculum with a focus on geography. Students are grouped in multi-age settings which include primary (K-3), intermediate/ middle (4-8). The schedule for Traveling Thursday is: 3:30-3:45 Circle Time is an informal gathering of students and teachers to take attendance and set objectives for the afternoon. 3:45-4:15 Recess/Snack Time treats may be purchased or brought from home and students go outside to use the play equipment. 4:15-5:00 Where in the World is Carmen Sandiego Time is a geography lesson that utilizes technology to travel around the world. Between September and November the focus is the United States. Between December and February the focus is the World. Between March and June the focus is Exotic Locations. 5:00-5:45 Map Time is a hands-on geography lesson that utilizes map skills to compliment the technology travel lessons. 5:45-6:00 Drill Time is a time for students to demonstrate mastery of skills practiced during group lessons. “Feastival” Friday is offered every Friday from 3:30-6 pm. “Feastival” Friday activities are designed to enrich the K-8 vocational education curriculum with a focus on cooking. Students are grouped in multi-age settings which include primary (K-3), intermediate/ middle (4-8). The Before and After School Program begins on September 17th. Students must register to attend the Before and After School Program (BASP). By registering your child, you can be assured that he/she may attend the program in an emergency.

Credit Credit is issued when a student is absent from school or dismissed early from school due to illness. Credit is also issued if there is a school closing due to an emergency.
Credit slips are used for payment. Sign-In and Sign-Out Parents/Guardians must sign-in students who attend the Before School Program. Parents/Guardians must sign-out students who attend the After School Program. Payment Payment for the program must be made in advance. Late fees must be paid within one week. Delinquent accounts will result in suspension from the program. Non-payment will result in exclusion from the program. Behavior Program participants are expected to use appropriate school behavior. The School Incident Reporting Procedure will be used to report incidents to the School Coordinator. Students may be excluded from the program if interventions are not successful. |
